ISM Service Learning Program Receives ASEAN School Awards Recognition

13 May 2026

For decades, service learning has been an integral part of the educational experience here at International School Manila. Rooted in the school’s values of integrity, service, and merit, students across all divisions participate in experiences that encourage empathy, responsibility, and action through long-term community partnerships, sustainability initiatives, and immersive learning opportunities.

A defining strength of service learning at ISM is its whole-community approach. Students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and community partners all play a role in shaping experiences that connect learning beyond the classroom. Longstanding programs such as Classroom Without Walls (CWW) and International Community Actively Responding to the Environment (ICARE) allow students to explore various sites across the country and experience different activities that encourage them to contribute positively to the community and environment. Students learn to build relationships grounded in respect, collaboration, and shared responsibility—all while gaining a deeper understanding of their role within local and global communities.

This commitment was recently recognized at the 2026 ASEAN School Awards, where ISM received the Judges Choice Award for Service Learning. Presented to outstanding finalists recognized for exceptional merit within the service learning category, the award celebrates schools that have implemented authentic and sustainable learning programs. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of the entire ISM community and the school’s continued commitment to nurturing compassionate, thoughtful, and globally-minded individuals who understand the importance of meaningful engagement and purposeful action.
