Meet the High School Guidance Counselors
There are four full time high school counselors at International School Manila. It is important to get to know your counselor and to allow your counselor to get to know you. Even if you don’t have anything you necessarily want to speak to a counselor about, it is a good idea to stop by on a regular basis to chat.
Elizabeth Mohr is in her third year at ISM and is starting with the High School after spending two years with the Middle School and now, as the Guidance Counselor particularly for Grs. 10-12 students with surnames A-G. Prior to coming to ISM, she was a PreK-12 counselor at Kaohsiung American School in Taiwan where she worked to develop the college counseling program. She earned a B.A in Educational Studies from the University of Oregon that focused on Human and Community Services. Elizabeth also earned a Peer helper advisor in School and Agency Counseling from Oregon State University. Elizabeth is excited about working with students and families to develop plans for a successful and balanced life throughout and during high school. Since she knows that students talk first to peers, she will work as the Peer Helper advisor to assist students develop skills in helping each other. Outside of school, she enjoys being outdoors whether it be hiking, the beach or scuba diving.
Vicky SyCip Herrera has been working at the International School Manila since January 1973. She handles Grs. 10-12 students with surnames N-Z. She started out teaching high school English courses, and then in 1975, she was asked to take the job of high school counselor. ISM feels very much like “home” to her as she also graduated from this school (then known as the American School) in 1968. After graduation, Vicky went to the University of the Philippines and graduated with an English degree, magna cum laude. Her graduate counseling courses were also completed at the University of the Philippines. Having been linked to the school for several decades, Vicky actively works with the Alumni Office to establish links with alumni all over the world. She encourages any alumni who may be reading this to come and visit her on this beautiful campus! Many of her former high school students are now parents at ISM!
Ron Fast is a new addition to the ISM counseling team. Ron will be responsible for our Grade 9 students in the High School. Additionally, he will be assisting with the High School Peer Helpers. Before coming to Manila, Ron was employed as a counselor at the Overseas School of Colombo in Sri Lanka. He has spent a total of nine years working in Asia, six of which have been in a counseling capacity. He holds a Masters degree in Education from Brock University, as well as a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Toronto. Ron has a particular interest in family dynamics and enjoys helping students explore and discover their true sense of Self. Outside of school, Ron enjoys the practice of yoga and meditation.
Jeremy Trotter has worked as a high school Guidance Counselor for 12 years, 8 years in Portland, Oregon and the last four years at the American School of Doha in Qatar. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado in International Business and a Masters in School Counseling from Oregon State University. Now in his second year in IS Manila, Jeremy’s goal as a counselor is to assist students with their personal development, academic guidance and post-secondary goals. He believes all students have the potential for success and this requires a commitment of time, patience and active participation from the people in their lives. While at ISM, he is the Guidance Counselor for Grs. 10-12 students with surnames H-M.

The IB/AP coordinator, Sandy van Nooten, is also housed within the guidance office. For International Baccalaureate students, it is important that you also get to know her. The IB/AP coordinator facilitates all aspects of the IB and AP programs for students and helps students register for exams.
