New Student Information

Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to assisting you and your family in your transition to IS Manila. Below you will find important information regarding school year 2018-2019. All new parents and new students entering Grades 2 - 12 are invited to attend the orientation on August 2, 2018. There will be a separate orientation for students entering Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1.

GRADES 2 to 4

Incoming Grade 2 to 4 students are encouraged to attend the orientation on Thursday, August 2. The main program will begin at 9:00 AM. After the main program, new students will be brought on a campus tour and have the opportunity to meet other students. At this time, parents of Elementary School children will proceed to the ES Faculty Lounge for division-specific information.

Following the divisional meeting, parents will be brought to the classrooms to meet their child's teacher and to pick up their children. Please note, some students may not have been assigned a teacher on this date, depending when they had their interview. In these instances, students will meet the Grade level program leader to learn more about the grade. 

The August 2, 2018 orientation is designed for incoming Grades 2, 3 and 4 students. For our incoming Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1 students, orientation will be on their first day of school on Monday, August 6.

 

PRESCHOOL, KINDERGARTEN, GRADE 1

Parents of new students are encouraged to attend the orientation on Thursday, August 2. The main program will begin at 9:00 AM with all new parents joining. At 9:45 AM, parents of Elementary School children will proceed to the ES Faculty Lounge for division-specific information.

New students joining Grades 2, 3 and 4 are invited to join a student orientation during this morning.  For our incoming Preschool, Kindergarten and Grade 1 students, orientation will be on their first day of school on Monday, August 6

Please note that for the first few weeks of school there will be a specific schedule to follow, as shown below. 

KINDERGARTEN - For students that have completed their Interviews and Enrollment Clearance
  • Thursday, August 2: Starting 11:00 AM, you may pick up the Orientation Schedule together with your child’s Section Card from the Elementary School Guidance Office. Please bring your signed Enrollment Clearance Form.
  • Monday, August 6: There will be three one-hour sessions with up to seven students coming in to see their new classroom. When the session is finished you and your child will return home for the day.
  • Tuesday, August 7 - Friday, August 10: For the first full week, Kindergarten students will be attending shorter sessions. The schedule during this time is 7:30 AM – 12:00 PM (except Wednesday, August 8, when classes start at 8:30 AM). Morning break is from 8:45 AM – 9:15 AM. Please note: Students will eat snack in their class; please send a few extra snacks.
  • Monday, August 13: Regular schedule begins August 13 onwards, from 7:30 AM – 2:15 PM (except Wednesdays, when classes start at 8:30 AM). 
GRADE 1 - For students that have completed their Interviews and Enrollment Clearance
  • Thursday, August 2: Starting 11:00 AM, you may pick up your Orientation Schedule together with your child’s Section Card from the Elementary School Guidance Office. Please bring your signed Enrollment Clearance Form.

All new parents and students entering Grades 5-8 will have an orientation on August 2 at 9:00 AM in the Fine Arts Theater (FAT). After the main program, Middle School students will be taken to their breakout sessions - Grades 5/6 in the Lofthouse and Grades 7/8 in Music Suite Room 1127. Meanwhile, Middle School parents will have their own session at the Amelita Martinez Ramos (AMR) Hall. 

Parents can pick up their children from outside the Bearcat Kantina at 12 noon.

Middle School students are encouraged to bring a hat, water bottle, and a snack for morning play. There will be loads of activities in store and we want everyone to enjoy themselves as much as possible!

Please be informed that Middle School Students in Grades 7 and 8 are required to bring their own laptops to school each day as per the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. For more information about the BYOD program, click HERE.

Thursday, August 2: Distribution of Class Schedule, ID & Locker for New Students. Please bring your signed Enrollment Clearance Form.

Monday, August 6: Start of Classes

*For students with Interviews after August 2, please complete your Enrollment Clearance form and proceed to the Middle School Guidance Office to receive your Class Schedule.

High School

All new parents and students entering Grades 9-12 will have an orientation on August 2 at 9:00 AM in the Fine Arts Theater (FAT). After the main program, High School (HS) students will then be taken to the Little Theater for their breakout session, which is located on the first floor after the Bearcat Kantina. HS Students are required to bring their laptops to the orientation. During this time, the IT Coordinator will be present to help with laptop setup.

Meanwhile, High School parents will have their own session in the HS Faculty Lounge located on the first floor, HS Science Hallway, across the HS Office.

High School students will be served lunch, and parents can meet with their children at the Little Theater at 1:45 PM.

The exception is for those students who need an audition for the following courses: Dance Company, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and Show Choir. Auditions begin at 1:00 PM.

BYOD: Bring Your Own Device @ ISM for Grades 7-12

International School Manila is committed to delivering the highest quality education in line with current best practices in the integration of technology. For the last three years students in Grades 11 and 12 have participated in our BYOD program resulting in an effective 21st Century learning environment.  For School Year 2013-2014 Grades 9 and 10 effectively joined the BYOD program. 

We believe that students thrive in an environment in which education with technology is a seamless part of their lives. The new latest expansion of the BYOD program will help enable students to take ownership and responsibility for their learning both in and outside of the classroom as well as help ease their transition into high school.

For school year 2018-2019, Middle School Students in Grades 7 and 8 will continue to bring their own laptops to school each day. The BYOD program in Middle School started in 2014 and thanks to much positive feedback from teachers, parents, and students the BYOD requirement remains.

In short any student at ISM in Grades 7-12 is required to bring their own laptop to school to use as a learning tool in the classroom.

ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES (ATAC) OFFICE

For Middle and High School students, you have the chance to try out for Volleyball, Soccer and Cross Country at the start of the school year. Elementary students in Grades 1-4 can try-out for the Rifa Soccer League festivals program held during season one.

All competitive teams will be announced before ES/MS Activity sign-ups open on Wednesday, August 15 at 4pm. Therefore allowing time to plan schedules.

UNIFORM SHOP

Uniform shop is closed from June 11 to July 20, 2018.
Starting July 23, 2018 the shop opens Monday to Friday until August 31, 2018
from 7:00am to 4:00pm.

After August 31, the Shop will resume regular operating hours of Tuesdays and Fridays, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM. It is located at the High School Courtyard at the Plaza Level, beside the Security Office. Contact number is 840.8590.
